Another successful Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Channel Regional Arts Group AGM was held in Kettering Hall on the evening of 26 September 2018.
It was another very positive gathering to celebrate the success of the year and to plan ahead for the future.
A General Meeting was held after the AGM to reflect on the previous 12 months and to see what could be learned.
Members present really appreciated the feedback that other members had provided, particularly in relation to the recent successful Art Trail.

Jazz in July report

Kettering Hall was tapping its toes to the music of the Cygnet Jazz Collective on Sunday 22nd July.  Malcolm Martin and his crew gave us plenty of Trad jazz, some Latin, and a little singing-the-blues.  Just over a hundred people enjoyed the show and some slipped on their dancin’shoes.  What a warm way to spend a winter afternoon!

JAZZ IN JULY was an initiative of Pat Fripp with the first concert put on by CRAG in 2008.  In recent years the Lions Club of Kingborough has taken on the ‘Lion’s Share’ of the organisation.  They were ably assisted by local jazz enthusiast Val Brown and the group of ladies who provided a light supper to make this a most convivial occasion.

In addition to the usual wine bar, David and Liz Hunn offered superb gin and vodka from their local craft distillery.

As the delightful day came to a close many hands helped pack up the hall.  Graham Sanders’ beautiful JAZZ IN JULY roadside signs were collected, ready for use again in twelve months.
See you there?

Full house for Country and Blues and Bluegrass Concert

Kettering hall was full to overflowing with a spell-bound audience on Sunday 8th April.
For three delightful hours we were treated to the happy and sometimes wistful banjo of Montz Matsumoto, the brilliant fiddle of Ross Smithard, as well as the beautiful guitar picking and rock solid bass of Ross Sermons. Louise Bell joined the group to sing a few songs, while Ned Trewartha was MC for the day.

All musicians playing together
Ross Sermons & Montz Matsumoto
These most talented musicians obviously enjoyed playing together and shared their pleasure most generously.
Montz Matsumoto and Ross Smithard.
The buzz of a happy audience during the break.

Delightful artwork by Kerry Thompson added colour and atmosphere.
Liz and David Hunn
Louise Bell & Ross Smithard
David Hunn made his award winning, locally distilled gin and vodka available.

For the intervals, Kettering’s Pashas Restaurant provided a range of meze while the wonderful group of women organised tea and coffee with an amazing array of cakes and pastries.
These goodies were supplemented by many members of the audience and kind donations from Banjos of Margate.
All good things must come to an end but sometimes they just keep resonating in our memories.
Special thanks to Louise Bell for designing the posters for the event, as well as performing.
A sepcial ‘Thank You’ to Ned Trewartha for initiating and organising a truly memorable afternoon.
